A rare model of a boat mill
Hi guys,
I thought you might like to take a look at my diorama featuring a rare model of a floating watermill called a boat mill which were once very common in Europe until around 1950 but now are all but disappeared other than museum displays.
My web page shows some details of the construction and I'm still working on it on and off making more trees for along the back.
See it here : www.vicnewey.co.uk/diorama
SMH Resonds Fascinating subject Vic and well executed as a visit to your web page illustrates.
After visiting you site, I did some research of my own and found a very complete history of these boat mills at: http://www.energybulletin.net/stories/2010-11-19/boat-mills-water-powered-floating-factories .
I learned the earliest of these mills dates back to 6th century Italy. Their use spread throughout Europe and even to Japan.
I have added an illustration which shows how these boat mills were made.
Truely an interesting diorama subject.
